2012 NLSC Contestant Schedule

CONTESTANTS: CHECK CAREFULLY for the time and location of your contestant meeting. To
compete, you must attend your contestant meeting.

• Contestants required to attend early orientations/familiarizations on Sunday: Check this schedule to see which lobbies
you will enter to be escorted to your contest areas.
• All contestants will enter Bartle Hall at 7:30 a.m., and competitions will begin at 8 a.m. unless otherwise stated in the
specific contest schedule. Contestants will enter through the Grand Ballroom and Lobbies 1500, 2100, 2200 and 2400
as appropriate for their contest location. Advisors, parents and observers will enter at 8 a.m.

State Farm Good Neighbor Student Achievement Grants – $1,000

State Farm™ is proud to team up with YSA (Youth Service America) to offer grants of up to $1,000 for programs enhancing student achievement through service-learning in K-12 public schools in all fifty US states, the District of Columbia, and in the Canadian provinces of Alberta, Ontario and New Brunswick.

Each grant engages participating teachers and students in a service and learning program that promotes academic achievement, workplace readiness, and stronger communities. The State Farm Good Neighbor Student Achievement Grant requires a 12 to 14 week Semester of Service™.

April Meeting

The next ETSC meeting will be at Mama’s House Buffet on Wednesday April 18th at 1:00 p.m. The 2012-2013 officer elections will be at this time, please be present if at all possible. It is requested a representative from every school in the Upper East Tennessee region is in attendance.

IMPORATNT Notes for the SkillsUSA State Competitions. Please read!

1) Barbering will take the written test at 1:00 p.m. in Marriott Plaza A, B, C.

2) Graphics Contest– Advisors and Students need to furnish their own transportation to Chattanooga State on Monday a.m. Students and advisors may ride the bus back.

3) Advisors not registered online will need to pay at the door.

4) No Changes will be made for contestants or models, unless an emergency after April 15, 2012.

5) Any photography/design instructor may bring studio lighting if desired. Please contact Sue Tucker at 615-532-2835 if anyone is able to do so for the state photography contest.

CNC competition

the CNC competition will be held off site on April 12. Both secondary and postsecondary will be involved, therefore this information is for both divisions. The postsecondary lead advisors and directors are receiving this and Carol Myers, Sue Tucker and Joe Cruz are receiving this for the secondary division and will forward this to the secondary competitors.

The Contest Chairperson has provided the following information:

Secondary Resumes are to be turned in on site and postsecondary resumes are to be filed online – Résumés must be posted here: www.skillsusa.net/newresume/

Contestants are to bring 1) Nonprogrammable Calculator and 2) Machinist Handbook. No tools are needed and pencils and paper will be furnished.

Onsite registration will begin at 9 am and the actual contest will begin at 10 am central time.

REMEMBER: No cell phone or other type of electronic communication is permitted in the contest area. Violation of this rule will result in disqualification.

State Computer Maintenance Technology

March 9, 2012, midnight, is the deadline to register your students for the Welding, Culinary Arts, and Commercial Baking contests. The contests take place on March 31, 2012. Welding will be at the Miller-Motte Technical College, Nashville, and the Culinary Arts and Commercial Baking contest will be at the Art Institute of Tennessee at Nashville.
