Please see attachment for the Senior Project Contest for the state SkillsUSA competition. The deadline for submission is February 20, 2012. This will give each contestant/contestants until close of state registration on March 16, 20102 to register for the state upon notification of acceptance into the competition. Dr. Chip Harris is the state coordinator but all questions concerning the contest may be directed to Sue Tucker, sue.tucker@tn.gov

Please have all students interested in holding regional officer positions attend the meeting on January 18 at Mama’s house buffet and bring a completed officer application. Officer positions and duties at the regional awards ceremony will be discussed.

Cosmetology Instructors
Needed are 1 chair and 3 judges for the Cosmetology Demo contests (consists of nail art, evening style, fantasy make0up and esthetics written test) and 1 chair and 3 judges for the Nail Care contest. Please send suggested names to Toni Campbell; stylinteach@hotmail.com

The regular State welding competition will be held in Nashville at Miller-Motte Technical College on April 7, 2012, at 8 AM. More information to follow at a later date.

There will be an additional welding contest at the Tennessee SkillsUSA State Competition on April 23/25, 2012, in Chattanooga and will be a Welding Sculpture Contest. This will be a single person contest. The contest rules are as follows:

To evaluate each contestant’s preparation for employment and to recognize outstanding students for excellence and professionalism in the field of Welding or Metal Trades.

The alternate date for the Carpentry Contest  is not the 28th it is the 23rd. Please update your calendar.

-The Upper East Tennessee Regional Registration deadline is January 20, 2012

-The Upper East Tennessee Regional competition will be held February 28, 2012 (Tuesday) at Northeast State with an inclement weather date of March 1, 2012 (Thursday)

-SkillsUSA membership registration deadline is February 3, 2012

-The next Upper East Tennessee Skills Committee Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday January 18, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Mama’s House Buffet.

All regional contest questions or concerns should be addressed at this time, please attend if possible. Also at this meeting, a vote will be taken concerning a programs participation and eligibility for the National Trip Scholarship money. It has been proposed a program must participate in Fall leadership and/or Regional Competition to be eligible for the travel money awarded for Nationals.

-The Tennessee State Conference will be held April 23-25, 2012 in Chattanooga Tennessee

2012 Regional Carpentry Contest Information Packet

Online applications will be available soon for the State Farm Good Neighbor Scholarships.

The link will be live on the 26seconds.com homepage at http://www.26seconds.com/ VERY SOON. Encourage interested students to take action as soon as possible, as there is a 360 application limit. High school seniors with a GPA of 2.5-3.2 can apply for the 26, two-year, $2,500 per year, scholarships to be used for higher education or technical school attendance. The scholarships are provided by the State Farm Companies Foundation.
