Please see attachment for the Senior Project Contest for the state SkillsUSA competition. The deadline for submission is February 20, 2012. This will give each contestant/contestants until close of state registration on March 16, 20102 to register for the state upon notification of acceptance into the competition. Dr. Chip Harris is the state coordinator but all questions concerning the contest may be directed to Sue Tucker, sue.tucker@tn.gov

Welding Contest – State

The regular State welding competition will be held in Nashville at Miller-Motte Technical College on April 7, 2012, at 8 AM. More information to follow at a later date.

There will be an additional welding contest at the Tennessee SkillsUSA State Competition on April 23/25, 2012, in Chattanooga and will be a Welding Sculpture Contest. This will be a single person contest. The contest rules are as follows:

Purpose

To evaluate each contestant’s preparation for employment and to recognize outstanding students for excellence and professionalism in the field of Welding or Metal Trades.

Updates for Contest

-The Upper East Tennessee Regional Registration deadline is January 20, 2012

-The Upper East Tennessee Regional competition will be held February 28, 2012 (Tuesday) at Northeast State with an inclement weather date of March 1, 2012 (Thursday)

-SkillsUSA membership registration deadline is February 3, 2012

-The next Upper East Tennessee Skills Committee Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday January 18, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Mama’s House Buffet.

All regional contest questions or concerns should be addressed at this time, please attend if possible. Also at this meeting, a vote will be taken concerning a programs participation and eligibility for the National Trip Scholarship money. It has been proposed a program must participate in Fall leadership and/or Regional Competition to be eligible for the travel money awarded for Nationals.

-The Tennessee State Conference will be held April 23-25, 2012 in Chattanooga Tennessee

contest is 2/16/12 at the GRAY FAIR GROUNDS if washington county schools are out that day for weather the date will be 2/28/12 at the GRAY FAIR GROUNDS IF ANY ONE HAS ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE CONTACT JERRY BREWER AT DANIEL BOONE HIGH SCHOOL OR MARK GOOD AT DAVID CROCKETT HIGH SCHOOL brewerj@wcde.org or goodm@wcde.org the test questions will be selected random on a program the day of test and the project will be changed the day of the test such as measurements pitch etc….

Online applications will be available soon for the State Farm Good Neighbor Scholarships.

The link will be live on the 26seconds.com homepage at http://www.26seconds.com/ VERY SOON. Encourage interested students to take action as soon as possible, as there is a 360 application limit. High school seniors with a GPA of 2.5-3.2 can apply for the 26, two-year, $2,500 per year, scholarships to be used for higher education or technical school attendance. The scholarships are provided by the State Farm Companies Foundation.
